International Women’s Day on-line event

On March 7, individuals from across the country can tune in to hear the inspiring journeys of three leaders and pioneer women of the military community in honour of International Women’s Day (IWD). Held on a virtual platform for the first time, the IWD Virtual Kick Off is hosted by MFRC-PEI virtual programming.

“This event is for any woman in the whole wide world, not just military women, anybody who’s ever experienced moves, deployments, or change in their life, anyone who’s experienced change in their life and wants to feel good after a really interactive virtual session…we bring people out, we laugh and enjoy the camaraderie of other women,” stated Margaret MacKenzie, Virtual Program Coordinator.

Guest speakers of the evening include Laura Earl-Middleton, Karen McCrimmon and Cyndi Mills.

Earl-Middleton has worked in the world of radio, television and print media for 15 years. She currently co-hosts a morning radio show but is well known for her comedy show “I’m an Army Wife. Now What?” that she’s performed at various bases across the country.

McCrimmon, Canada’s first female navigator, served for 25 years in the CAF. Currently, she is making her mark in politics as the MP from Kanata-Carlton and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of Defence.

Tailoring her career to meet her needs as a military spouse, and military mom, Mills is the founder of the Canadian Military Family Magazine. The first of its kind, the magazine reaches military families across the country and features content that is pertinent to the military community.

“What people can expect on Monday night would be laughter, information, engagement and interaction. They can expect 15-20 minutes from each of the guest speakers on their journey related to military women in their ventures as leaders,” said MacKenzie.

The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session.

Anyone not familiar with the virtual platform can join early and take a tour with MacKenzie to get comfortable with the format.

The MFRC-PEI has hosted several virtual meet-and-greet sessions, giving a chance to military families from coast to coast to connect with prominent members of the community, including the recently held Building Bridges sessions.

The event is hosted in partnership with Military Family Services and the Canadian Military Family Magazine.

The International Women’s Day Virtual Kick Off will be held 6:30 p.m. EST on Monday, March 7. To register visit mfrc-pei.webex.com.
